In memoriam Armand Henrot

Armand Henrot was born on August 1, 1926 in Ampsin, village of the Valley of the Meuse, near Amay.  When he was 7, he started to collect poststamps; this hobby quickly became a passion which led him to gather the totality of the Belgian stamps and also collect French, Luxemburgish stamps... He was interested in the course of the mail emitted in the area of Amay and studied the postmarks.

The chance brought him face to caps of postmen; he decided then to collect various models of various countries, while writing to his correspondents and to the embassies. He received not only hats but also uniforms ! Other objects were added: sticks, clappers, mailboxes, signs, etc.

The volume of this new collection, the desire of an ageing man to show it to the public, made that he choosed in 2003 to offer it to the Gourmet Museum of the Tourist information office of Hermalle-sous-Huy, because the curator, Charles-Xavier Ménage, helped him for his researchs.

A new small Museum "Postes restantes" was born, devoted to the objects of the post office and, by extension, to those of the script. Armand Henrot weekly supervised the evolution of this museum until his health obliged him to space his visits.

August 4, 2005, he got to sleep forever.  Poeple who knew him remember a "small" man, voluntary, passionnate, generous and how much attaching.
